Director, Professionals’ Division, The Insurance Institute of Canada
Margaret is responsible for the Institute’s graduate community nationally (aka the CIP Society), for the Institute’s Research Division, and for promoting careers in the insurance industry through the Institute’s Career Connections and mycareer career mapping programs. In her 12 plus years with the Institute, Margaret has overseen the Institute’s Demographic Analysis of the P&C insurance industry’s workforce in Canada in 2007, 2012, and in 2017/18 (study currently in progress). Margaret also directs the Institute’s Emerging Issues Research Series, which are insightful research reports on the issues impacting the P&C insurance industry in Canada. Previous topics have included cyber risks (2015), automated vehicles (2016), sharing economy (2017) and coming next for 2018 is the Changing Workforce: Implications for the Insurance Industry in Canada, as a sister report to the demographic reports – providing insight from the past decade and projecting change into the next decade. More information about the Institute’s research initiatives is available at: www.insuranceinstitute.ca/research.
The demographic research findings have informed the development, strategic direction and scope of the career continuum resources the Institute has developed. Since 2003, Career Connections has been promoting careers in the P&C insurance industry across the country to high school students, college and university students and graduates, and career changers and internationally trained professionals. The program reaches over 100,000 potential candidates every year through career fairs, classroom presentations, insurance-specific informational events, speed networking, office hours and on-campus career fairs connecting potential candidates with interested employers. More information about Career Connections is available at: www.career-connections.info.
The mycareer program was launched in January 2017 to provide information and resources, tips and tools, to help new entrants and recent hires navigate pathways for insurance education and map career options to build a successful career in insurance.
